Send replies from your own address

Updated

Customers trust email that comes from your address. Verify your domain once and every reply your team sends from Bancroft comes from your support address, like support@yourcompany.com.

Before your domain is verified

Replies still reach customers. They come from a Bancroft address with your workspace's name on them, and when a customer replies, the email goes to your support address. If you forward that address to Bancroft, the reply lands on the same ticket.

Verify your domain

  1. Make sure your support address is saved in Settings → Email.
  2. Under Send from your own address, Bancroft lists a few DNS records for your domain. Each one has a type, a name and a value, with buttons to copy them.
  3. Sign in to wherever you manage DNS for your domain (often your domain registrar or hosting provider) and add each record exactly as shown.
  4. Back in Bancroft, select Check DNS.

DNS changes can take up to an hour to show up. The badge on the card tells you where things stand:

  • Pending. Bancroft hasn't seen the records yet. Check again a little later.
  • Verified. Replies now come from your support address.
  • Failed. Something didn't match. Compare each record with what you added, fix it, and check again.

These records only let Bancroft send for your domain. They don't change where your company's incoming email is delivered.

Addresses that can't be verified

Free mailbox addresses, like gmail.com or outlook.com addresses, belong to the email provider, so nobody else can verify them. Forwarding still works with them, and replies go out as described under "Before your domain is verified" above.

If you connected a mailbox with IMAP

While an IMAP mailbox is connected, replies go out through that mailbox instead, from its own address. See Connect a mailbox with IMAP.
